Windows 98 1st Edition Connection Instructions

1. Click on your Start button.

2. Point to Programs.

3. Point to Internet Explorer.

4. Click on Connection Wizard.

5. Choose I have an existing account through my phone line or a local area network (LAN). Help me set up my computer to connect to this Internet account.

6. Click Next.

7. Choose Select this option if you are accessing the internet service provider or a local area network (LAN).

8. Click Next.

9. Choose Connect using my phone line.

10. Click Next.

11. Choose Create a new dial-up connection.

12. Click Next.

13. For area code use 717, for the Telephone Number enter your local access #:  Local Access Phone Number

14. .Take the check mark out of the box saying Use area code and Country Code and click Next.

15. Enter your Username (username@countryilink.net) and Password that you selected (these must be entered in lowercase letters). The password will be displayed as stars. Please be careful when entering this information.

16. Click Next.

17. A screen should now ask you Do you want to change the advanced settings for this connection. Choose NO.

18. Click Next.

19. For the connection name type in Country I Link.

20. Click Next.

21. A screen should now ask you Do you want to set up an Internet Mail Account now? Choose Yes.

22. Click Next.

23. Type in your real name for the display name (you can use capital letters and spaces here).

24. Click Next.

25. Enter your email address given at sign-up using only lower case letters (username@countryilink.net where username is your user name you chose. example: If username is bettyboop, then email address would be bettyboop@countryilink.net).

26. Click Next.

27. For My Incoming Mail Server Is A choose POP3 server. Press the TAB key on your keyboard.

28. For Incoming Mail(POP3 or IMAP) server type in:  mail.countryilink.net   

29. For Outgoing Mail(SMTP) server type in:  mail.countryilink.net

30. Click Next.

31. Choose Log On Using. Enter your userID and password that you chose at sign-up( must be entered using all lowercase letters and no spaces).

32. Click Next.

33. A screen should now ask you Do you want to set up an Internet News Account Now? Choose NO. We are currently do not carry newsgroup feeds.

34. Click Next.

35. A screen should now ask you Do you want to set up your Internet Directory Server Account? Choose NO.

36 Click Next.

37. Click Finish

You are now ready to start surfing the internet. Double clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop will bring up a Dial-up connection box. Please make sure that your user name and password are shown (your password will show as stars).

Click on the Connection button and your modem will dial out to Country I-Link and Microsoft Internet Explorer will start up.

Important Notice:  We Now Require Authentication when sending out email, too.  This setting is NOT automatically set in Outlook Express.  Please click on this notice for further instructions on changing this setting.
