I Get
Disconnected When I Check My Email:
You're probably using Outlook Express.
If so, there's a setting in OE that disconnects you after you send or receive
mail.
 |
In Outlook Express, click on Tools at
the top of the screen |
 |
Click on Options Click the Connection
or Dialing tab |
 |
Uncheck the box next to Hang up after
sending and receiving |
 |
Click Apply |
 |
Click OK |
If this doesn't do the trick, try this:
 |
In Outlook Express, click on Tools at
the top of the screen |
 |
Click on Accounts Click on the Mail tab
|
 |
If there multiple accounts here delete
any unused accounts. |
 |
If an account is configured to use a
connectoid that doesn't exist, it will disconnect the current dial-up
connection. This may also occur if an account is set to dial some other dial-up
connection than the current one. If any accounts have an entry other than Any
Available listed under the Connection column: |
 |
Click on that account to select it
|
 |
Click on the Properties button Click on
the Connection tab Uncheck the box next to Always connect to this account using:
|
 |
Click Apply Click OK |

I can't view attachments in Outlook Express:
Outlook Express 6 has a "feature" that
blocks attachments that Microsoft deems "unsafe". It is usually on by
default, and will also occasionally become re-enabled. To disable this feature:
 |
In Outlook Express, click on Tools,
then Options. |
 |
Click on the Security tab. Uncheck the
box that says "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could
potentially be a virus". |
 |
Click OK |

Outlook Express not showing
message in preview pane:
Try this fix first:
 |
Click Start |
 |
Click Run
|
 |
Type in regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
|
 |
Click OK, or
Go, whichever your system has. |
If this doesn't work, your antivirus
program may be scanning email. This always seems to cause issues at some point,
and should be disabled, since your antivirus software should discover the virus
regardless.

I
Can't Send Out Any Emails:
To add additional security for the
protection of our customers email accounts, Country I Link has joined many other

Authentication' when sending out emails. This setting allows your email
software to check with our server to verify that you are one of our users and
are permitted to send out mail. To Check this setting, select your email

I
get an error saying that I can't log on to server 127.0.0.1:
This error is caused by the email
scanning feature of either Norton Antivirus or McAfee's Antivirus installe don
your computer. Norton & McAfee, as a matter of providing extra protection
from virus sent via email, checks your mail, scans it, then makes it available
on and email server on your local computer - also known as localhost or
127.0.0.1. Sometimes the Norton or McAfee's email scanner malfunctions for
whatever unknown reason. When this happens, the easiest option is to
restore the normal setting in Outlook Express and let Norton or McAfee
re-configure itself and the mail client later. You may discover that even
this does not solve the problem. In this case, disable Norton's or
McAfee's email protection option. (Your computer will still be protected from
viruses, just scanning on email as it arrives will be disabled.)
To Resolve the Problem:
 |
Open Outlook Express |
 |
Click on Tools at the top of the
screen |
 |
Click on Accounts Click on the Mail
tab |
 |

 |
Click on the Properties button

Why am I
getting all this Junk email?:
Although we do provide our customers with Spam/Junk email filtering. Unfortunately,
nothing is 100% effective. Junk email is a never ending battle, but here
are a couple of recommendations for avoiding future occurrences and dealing with
Spam/Junk email:
 |
Go out to yahoo, msn, hotmail, etc. and get yourself a free email account
with one of them. Use this email address when registering for things on the
Internet. This will help keep your Country I Link email address more private and
you will have only one place that your junk email will go. So many companies
today will sell your email address to interested 3rd parties. Be cautious and
read the 'privacy' policy on the sites you provide your email address for
information on how they will use your information. |
 |
Never, Never, Never, just in case you didn't catch this, NEVER use the
'Remove Me' or 'Unsubscribe' link provided in a junk email message. Simply
delete it. Spammers are required to provide a remove or unsubscribe link and
they use dictionary type techniques to send out junk emails, meaning they are
usually sending emails out blindly. However, what they don't tell you is that
when you use these links in an email, you are actually letting them know that
they have a 'Live' email address. They will then pass this live address on to
other spammers. The end result, you end up receiving twice as much junk email as
you were getting before. The only time I would recommend using the remove me
links in an email is with a company that you know is legitimate. |
 |
Check you email software 'Help' for setting up filter rules. Both Outlook
& Outlook Express provide some really neat filter tools to actually filter
the emails you are receiving. They allow you to set up filter rules based on
words or phrases, subject, etc. and even provide a 'Blocked senders list' to
send your unwanted mail directly to the 'Deleted Items' folder. So, you'll never
even see it. |
 |
If you are using Outlook or
Outlook Express,
Spamfighter* offers both a paid version and a completely free version
of their software. So, you might want to give it a try to see if it helps.
Spamfighter * will
easily integrate into Outlook Express and will place a 'Spamfighter' folder that
will automatically place suspected junk email into this new folder to help keep
your inbox free of all the unwanted emails.
Spamfighter* will initially install the fully functional 30-day
trial of their paid version. After the 30 days, if you decide not to purchase,
only a couple of the paid features will disable, but the main program will
continue to function just fine. It will also begin stamping all of your outgoing
emails with a Spamfighter advertisement, which is not a bad trade-off for its
effectiveness. Click on the link below for more information. |
*Country I
Link does not provide technical support for Spam Fighter or any of their
products. Use of their software is at your own risk. Any questions
should be directly to the support links on their website.
Your "QUARANTINE REPORT" is a list of emails that
are considered to be SPAM. You may open the quarantine report like any
email to view the contents. Most of the entries in the report are junk mail
(spam). If you do not see any valid email addresses in the report, simply
delete the quarantine report. You can change the frequency of when you
receive the report (default is daily), or you can simply choose to not receive
the quarantine report.
To change the settings for your quarantine report
(and other features of email), you need to logon to the
webmail and click
the word "Settings" at the top of the screen. The quarantine report
settings are grouped under "Email Settings", so just click the link for
"Quarantine Reports".
A sample quarantine report is shown below as viewed
using Country I Link's webmail. The report looks similar when opened using
a client based email program such as Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook,
Thunderbird, etc.

If you should see a "Trusted" email address in your
report, you can "Release" the email to your inbox by viewing the message, and
then clicking on the Release link at the top left of the message, OR by clicking
on the 'Release' link under the Action column of the Quarantine report. By
releasing the email, future emails from that sender will also be placed in your
inbox and not be quarantined.
An example of releasing a quarantined message is
below:

After you select your options, a screen similar to
the one below will appear :

Should you choose to "Block" a sender, click on the
Block link to the right of the email, and a screen similar to the one below will
appear: One Special Note on Blocking: Due
to the current setting, all blocked emails are still set to be put into your
Quarantine folder. So, you will still see them listed under the Blocked
Category of your Quarantine Report. We suggest that you do not use the
"Block" feature nor worry about blocking email recipients from the Quarantine
Report.

You can then either block the sender's email address
(default) or block all emails from the entire domain .
You can check your email by using our webmail link
from our home page, www.countryilink.net, and easily
delete any unwanted emails before downloading the messages to your computer
using your client based program such as Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook,
Thunderbird, etc. By using webmail, you can delete messages that are too
large, or known as spam, which will make your downloads of email much faster.
You can also click on the "Settings" at the top of your webmail screen to change
aspects of your email, including whether or not you wish to receive the
quarantine report, or how often you would like to receive it.
Country I Link always recommends that you download
email to your own computer so that the messages are saved on your computer and
removed from the server.
I hope these tips will help provide you with a less cluttered and more
hassle-free email experience.
