Mac OS 8 - 9 Connection Instructions

 

The following set of instructions will guide you through activating your Country I Link dial-up account on Mac OS version 8 - 9. When finished, you will be able to browse the Internet, send e-mail messages, and access online news/discussion groups. Please be sure to carefully follow both the written instructions and the step-by-step instructions on the screen.

If your system includes the Internet Setup Assistant, your setup will be easy. Just run the Assistant and answer the questions onscreen, referring to your Country I Link Account Info. If you're not sure if you have the Assistant, use Sherlock to search for it. Otherwise, follow the instructions here:

TCP/IP Control Panel
In the upper left corner of the screen, click the Apple menu, then choose TCP/IP from the Control Panels pop-out menu.
At the top of the TCP/IP window, click the pop-up menu labeled Connect Via. Choose PPP.
Choose Using PPP Server from the Configure pop-up menu.
In the Name server address field, type: 205.160.192.2 & 206.105.201.35
In the Additional Search domains field, type: countryilink.net
In the upper left corner of the TCP/IP control panel, click the Close box.

Remote Access Control Panel
Note: In OS 8.0-8.1 this control panel is titled "PPP".

1. In the upper left corner of the screen, click the Apple menu, then choose Remote Access from the Control Panels pop-out menu.
2. Enter your Country I Link username in lower case letters in the Name blank. Make sure that you enter both in all lower case letters.
3. Enter your Country I Link password in both the Password and click Next. If you don't want to re-type your password every time you log onto the Internet, make sure Save Password is checked.
4. Enter the local Country I Link access number, which can be found on our 'Local Access Numbers' page, in the Telephone Number blank. Please note that Country I Link is not responsible for any long distance telephone charges you may have when using our dial-up services. Once you have filled in you local access telephone number click Next.

Internet Control Panel
Note: In OS 8.0-8.1 this control panel is not there, skip it and use the account setup options in the individual mail programs.

1. In the upper left corner of the screen, click the Apple menu, then choose Internet from theControl Panels pop-out menu.
2. Choose File > New Set...
3. In the resulting dialog box, type Country I link into the Name new set: field and click Save.
4. In the Name field, type your name as you would like it to appear to your email recipients.
5. Enter your Country I Link e-mail address (for example, user@countryilink.net) in lower case letters in the E-mail Address blank. Make sure that you enter both in all lower case letters.
6. Click the E-Mail tab.
7. Enter your Country I Link username in lower case letters in the User Account ID blank. Make sure that you enter both in all lower case letters.
8. In the Incoming Mail Server field, type: pepper.countryilink.net.
9. In the Password blank, type your Country I Link password in all lower case letters.
10. In the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server field, type pepper.countryilink.net.
11. Choose your preferred e-mail program from the Default Web Browser pop-up menu (at the bottom of the window).
12. Click the Web tab.
13. In the Home Page field, type: http://www.countryilink.net
14. Choose your preferred web browser from the Default Web Browser pop-up menu (at the bottom of the window).
